About The Montessori World
What this directory is, who runs it and how it is kept up to date
The Montessori World (themontessori.world) is an international directory dedicated exclusively to Montessori education. It gathers schools from different countries into a catalogue you can browse by country, by city and by stage, and gives every school a page of its own to describe itself in its own words.
It started from a concrete gap: a family looking for Montessori finds lists of centres with a name, a phone number and little else. What they do not find is how those schools resemble and differ from one another, which is exactly what they need in order to decide which one to visit.
What each profile contains
Every profile brings together the environments by age, the team's training, the languages of the school, services and facilities, the accreditations and affiliations the school declares, photographs, the location and the ways to get in touch.
The information comes mainly from the school itself, which writes and maintains it. In some cases we create an initial profile from public information on the school's own website, until the centre claims it to manage it or asks us to withdraw it.
Testimonials are published in the language they were written in and are never translated. Profiles exist in Spanish and in English, and a school may add its text in further languages.
What we do not do
We do not certify, accredit, inspect or audit the schools in the directory.
A school appearing here means it has been admitted under the directory's admission criteria, on the basis of what the school itself declares. It is not a quality seal or a recognition of Montessori authenticity, and it does not replace a family's visit or their own judgement.
We do not sell placement either: the order in which schools appear is not for sale.
How it is kept up to date
We review every profile before publishing it and write to the school if anything needs clarifying. From then on, the school updates its information whenever it wants.
If a profile goes a year without being updated, we show a notice so families confirm the details with the school. The notice disappears once the profile is updated again.
Location data — cities and regions — comes from GeoNames, under a CC BY 4.0 licence.
What it costs
Having a profile on The Montessori World costs the school nothing. Appearing, claiming an existing profile and keeping it current are all free.
For families the directory is free to use, and no account is needed to browse it.
